Here at the Heathman Lodge we are taking steps to lighten the load that we place on the planet. We believe “GREEN” is a term that is being thrown around a lot in today’s world, and to each person might mean something different. We are not prefect but we are striving to do our part for the environment.
We went in to this project fully knowing we could not do everything from day one and that it was going to be a process of education, awareness and learning new ways of doing our work.
List of accomplishments initiated in last 3 months:
- Composting of all food waste.
- We have been able to reduce our monthly waste from 137 yards to 72 yards per month. Over the course of one year this could be as much as 780 total yards of waste not heading down the Columbia River Gorge.
- We were only recycling about 38 yards per month but not have increased our recycling to 68 yards per month.
- We continue to look for ways to reduce and recycle even more. In the next few months we will be giving our guests the ability to recycle in their room.
- We have installed compact florescent bulbs in over 95% of our lighting.
- We have purchased carbon off-sets for our vehicles here at the Lodge.
- We have installed low flow water restrictors in all guest room faucets, going from 2.5 gallons per minute to 1.5 gallons per minute.
- All to go items in Hudson’s are made of compostable material.
- One of our major vendors – Mt. Hood Chemical is going to “green” only products.
- We have our housekeeping staff trained to set back all thermostats in the guestrooms.
- We recycle all paper products in office areas, any information that has guest information is process by Docu shred for security and that entire paper product is recycled.
- Instead of making paper copies for internal paper work we use our copy machine that allows us to PDF those items to be sent to e-mail. We encourage all staff not print out e-mail.
Hudson’s Bar and Grill has been doing the following –
- We use fresh ingredients from local farmers that support sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
- We utilize “certified Humane” cage free eggs, & hormone, and rBST free milk.
- We use Washington State Beef, and only wild caught Salmon.
We will always strive to do better, and to do the right thing, to date we are very proud of our team's accomplishments. We will continue to evaluate and initiate more in our plan.
